A New Hybrid Powertrain
We saved the best for last, as everyone is buzzing about the new hybrid powertrain option for the Telluride. There is still a pure gas engine option. It is a 2.5 L turbo engine offering 274 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque. That’s a nice 49 lb-ft increase over the previous internal combustion engine.
But let’s talk about the powertrain that everyone is excited about: the hybrid. Also a 2.5 L turbo engine, this powertrain adds a 1.65 kWh lithium-ion battery and electric motors. Together, these create 329 hp and 339 lb-ft of torque.
The hybrid engine is matched with a six-speed automatic transmission and has an available AWD system. If you’re looking for optimal traction for your Minnetonka drives, consider the AWD option. Also part of this powertrain is the dynamic torque vectoring control system. It improves handling and stability, giving you optimal dynamics wherever you drive.
Possibly the coolest feature of the hybrid powertrain is the Stay Mode. It utilizes the battery’s energy to operate the climate control, lighting, your sound system, and other vehicle systems for roughly 20 minutes without activating the internal combustion engine. So you can get cozy without using gas.
